Ghutra vs Shemagh vs Keffiyeh

The ghutra is a plain white headscarf, the shemagh is a patterned headscarf available in white and red, and the keffiyeh is a general name for the patterned headscarf of the Levant. All three are worn with the egal; in the Gulf, "ghutra" and "shemagh" are the common terms. Ashbiliya explains the differences from experience since 1970.

Ghutra

A square white headscarf, plain and unpatterned, worn with the egal. The everyday symbol of Gulf elegance, in different weights and weaves for summer and occasions.

Shemagh (Yashmagh)

A patterned headscarf, which we carry in white and red. Worn with the egal, it is often chosen for occasions and personal taste.

Keffiyeh

A general name for the patterned headscarf of the Levant and Iraq, similar in form to the shemagh. In the Gulf, "ghutra" and "shemagh" are used more than "keffiyeh".
